myrules
In this section, you will find all of the rules for the contest. They are the same kinds of rules you will find for many other video competitions, and they are in place to make sure you are protected. Please go ahead and read them – we really want you to!
Criteria:
- Postmark your video no later than Friday, December 11, 2009.
- Entrants must be 12-18 years of age. Three semifinal videos will be chosen and the winner will be selected from there.
- Entries must be sent online here or by mail, burned on a DVD.
- A production team can consist of one to five people but your video may feature as many people as you like. You and your team can get help, but your video must be your own creative effort.
- At the end of your video, each team member must state his/her name, address and telephone number. This information will not be made public – it is for our use only.
- Identify your video by applying the contact name of the Adult Advisor and your school/organization name, address, phone number, and the language of submission (English or French) on the video itself. Again, this information will not be made public – it is for our use only.
- Your video submission can be in English or French.
- Keep a copy of your video for yourself – entries will not be returned.
Submissions must be sent to:
My Privacy and Me
c/o Office of the Privacy Commissioner
112 Kent Street
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 1H3
Or click here to enter online.
Your video will be judged by a jury of professionals based on:
- Effectiveness and creativity in the communication of the My Privacy and Me message.
- Production quality. Even if you have an amazing idea, it could be lost if your images or sound are unclear.
- Sticking to the rules. Your video must:*
- be between 60 and 120 seconds in length;
- be submitted online or by mail, burned on a DVD;
- be accompanied by one entry form, which also includes a parent or guardian signature PER PARTICIPANT;
- not contain any images not created by the entrants (such as pictures, photographs, stock film or images from the Internet) without a letter of permission from the person having rights in the images to use them for insertion in the video for the purposes of the Competition and granting to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and its servants and agents the right to use all video images they receive as they see fit. Remember to include, unless he/she stated otherwise, the name of the author of the images in the credits of the video; and
- use only original music in your video (i.e. music you and your team composed), or use royalty-free and rights-free music.
Legal stuff
All video entries must be licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.5 Canada Licence. If others alter, transform, or build upon this work, they may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar licence to this one. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada will wish to use the videos it receives in order to promote privacy awareness across the country. It may use these videos, or parts of these videos, on its website, in presentations, or in other formats.
Entrants will also be required to represent that all persons connected with the production of the video and all other persons whose names, voices, photographs, likenesses, work, services and materials have been used in the video have authorized the use of their names, voices, photographs, likenesses, performances and data in connection with the distribution, advertising, promotion and exploitation of the video. The contest closes Friday, December 11, 2009.
No responsibility will be taken for entries that are incomplete, damaged, misdirected or delayed. To enter and be eligible to win, a person must be under 19 years of age as of December 11, 2009, a permanent resident or citizen of Canada who has the consent of his/her parent/guardian (if he or she has not reached the age of majority) and who is not an employee of, a member of the immediate family of, or domiciled with an employee of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. This contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. Prizes are subject to change without notification and must be accepted as awarded. No substitutions will be made, transfer permitted or refunds allowed, cash or otherwise. All entrants shall submit a signed Declaration and Release and waiver of moral rights attaching to the work(s) which is part of this entry form, with their video entry, to be signed by their parent or legal guardian, if they have not reached the age of majority before receiving their prize. By entering, contestants agree to abide by the contest rules and the decisions of the contest organizers, which are final and to the use of their name, photograph and likeness in any form of media for publicity purposes in connection with the initiative and without compensation. Any personal information collected for the purposes of the competition will only be used or disclosed for that purpose and in accordance with the Privacy Act of Canada. In providing such information, participants or their parent/guardian do consent to the use of such information as indicated. The parent or the legal guardian will become responsible for anything related to the entry, the competition or the awarding of prizes if the winner has not reached the age of majority. The odds of being selected will depend on the total number of eligible entries received.
